In light of my twitter timeline flooding with "Gossip Girl" sightings and little spoilers I have come across here and there, I feel like it is only right to post about mi amor, Leighton Meester.
Leighton Meester. Beautiful, talented, and an overall sweet potato. I can honestly say I have never read anything nasty or gossipesque about her, contrary to her catty, rich little pretty "princess" Blair Waldorf persona I've seen on one my favorite shows IN THE WORLD "Gossip Girl". The only negative things I've heard about her are the harsh fashion critiques Joan Rivers (whom I love) spews out on E!'s show Fashion Police, and those are all opinion based statements, not facts. Leighton just seems very sweet, down to earth, level headed, extremely mature, personable... the list goes on. Perhaps this is because of her humble beginnings and... "interesting" relationship with her mother that keeps her centered and level headed.
Imagine, your mother, who you've known, felt, been one with for nine months, was pregnant with you in a prison cell. For what? Being a part of an international smugglefest. When welcomed into the world you weren't greeted by a beautiful wooden cradle, rosy pink walls, and stuffed teddies galore. Instead, after birth you were greeted by roommates of a half-way house. What a nice warm welcome into the "real" world right?
Leighton was born April 9, 1985 in Forth Worth, Texas. Her mother was actually serving time when she was born, but was allowed to nurse Leigh in a halfway house for three months before completing her 10 year prison sentence. While reading up on the starlet, I see she constantly defends her mother, and family all together, when it comes to the negative spin the media has put on them. She says she had a normal upbringing and the situation taught her to be nonjudgmental. Nice! That's extremely admirable. Instead of pulling the "I was a jail house baby" victim card, she used it as an opportunity to learn and still continued to love and respect her parents.
Between the past and present, Leighton completed k-12, and has done MANY projects and earned her roles on hit shows like Entourage and Gossip Girl, and has stared in a diverse selection of movies like The Roomate, Country Strong and Monte Carlo. She's even been the face of Vera Wang's LoveStruck fragrance and timeless fashion line Missoni. She even sings! Triple threat on deck! But alas, despite all of this good fortune drama still exists between Leigh and the parental units, her mother to be exact.
Back in July, Ms. Leighton came to blows, legal blows that is, when her mother used money meant for her sibling's health on herself. According to NYDailynews.com, Leighton sends $7,500 a month to finance medical care for her younger brother Lex, who is reported to have multiple medical issues. Instead on spending that money on Lex, the mother continued to finance her bubble-but lifestyle by using the money for plastic surgery, hair extensions, and botox. Not cool. If that wasn't enough, apparently the mother has threatened Leighton with a $3 million lawsuit, demanding to up the monthly allowance to 10 grand! Now, I will not judge because I am on the outside looking in, but if I could I would say, hands down, that's one crazy momma!
It seems like life hasn't, and isn't always easy for her, but she keeps a postive attitude and continues to do and be the best she can be. She shows up to work, drama not included. She handles her personal family situations. With all of the stress in the world she still remains happy, poised, and settled! Honestly, she inspires me to live my life like it's golden, because it is, despite the hardships, rainy days, road blocks, whatever. Does she inspire you?
